The Social Brain - Samantha Rockey
Webinar November 26 5PM AEST
Samantha Rockey - co-founder of Thompson Harrison and Associate Fellow at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School (OSBS)
‘Those who pay scant attention to the day-to-day dynamics of human relationships, and the human biology that informs them … will find leadership very challenging’ says The Social Brain (2023).
In this session, Samantha Rockey from Oxford’s Said Business School draws on contemporary insights from neuroscience and psychology fields to point to necessary ingredients for great teamwork—drawing on her book The Social Brain authored alongside colleagues Tracey Camilleri and leading evolutionary psychology expert Robyn Dunbar.
Samantha will offer practical hints on how to diffuse tensions and encourage cooperation. By explaining how the social brain works, she gives insights for balancing unity and encouraging different perspectives, and answers intriguing questions such as: How many people does the ideal team contain? How do groups bond, earn trust and forge shared identities? How can leaders build environments adaptable enough to respond to shocks and still enable people to thrive together? How can you feel close to people if your only point of contact is a phone or a computer?
