Can Abrasive Leaders Change?
There is a misconception that abrasive leaders can't change. While it takes effort and self-awareness, positive change is possible. Laura Crawshaw, Ph.D., BCC discussed several key factors in her NPSN webinar:
· Self-reflection: The leader needs to recognise the impact of their behaviour and be willing to change.
· Coaching and development: Management training or working with an executive coach can equip the leader with new communication and management skills.
· Accountability: Leaders must be held accountable for their behaviour. Clear expectations and consequences for continued abrasive behaviour are essential.
Organisations that create a culture of open communication and offer support programs can help abrasive leaders become more effective and inspire, rather than intimidate, their teams.
